I started attending Function Fitness because I needed to strengthen my lower back and prevent the recurrence of the pain and debilitation that had plagued me for decades, and it worked! My first impression of Function Fitness was how friendly and inclusive it felt. As a “woman of a certain age” and previously a “non-gym” person , I thought I would feel awkward and out of place, but I never felt like that and still don’t. My first “bright spot ” was realising that I could do a lot more than I thought was possible, due to excellent guidance and encouragement from all the staff. My goal now is to regain the strength and confidence lost (or possibly mislaid!) during a year that contained the onset of heart trouble and a broken wrist plus all the “stop/start” and stress of lockdown restrictions. I have no particular memory of attending Function Fitness except all the fun and laughter of sharing classes with other ” women of a certain age “!
Jo's story
After finally getting into a good exercise routine during the first lockdown, I signed up to the bootcamp at Function Fitness. I felt quite nervous beforehand but everyone was so friendly and very welcoming. I loved the bootcamp sessions and missed it when it finished, so signed up for the fundermentals and they have been absolutely brilliant. It’s great how you are pushed to challenge yourself, a favourite memory so far is choosing to do squat jumps instead of box jumps in a workout and Charlie saying “I think you can” and I did! It killed me but afterwards I was so pleased that I went out of my comfort zone. I’m really looking forward to the forged sessions now!
Nat's Story
I came to Function Fitness because I was looking for a gym with a personal touch and highly skilled coaches. A gym I could afford and use for PT, gym and classes. I had high expectations if I’m honest. My first impression was positive. I felt I could be myself, say anything, that nothing was too stupid to ask and that I could achieve. That impression has only grown stronger. The coaches are all really positive about how I’m doing and are skilled in bringing out the best in me, using a high level of knowledge. My first bright spot was deadlifting 70kg with my personal trainer. Feeling ‘wow!’ I can do this and I’m enjoying it! I’m now working on getting stronger and leaner, learning good, solid, lifting techniques continuing the cardio & nutrition alongside. My Favourite Function Fitness Memory? I’m still pretty new….I guess Harry in an elf suit?? Or Mike’s face when he thinks I’m done and I smash another rep! ;)
